sung to ghost riders in the sky
As I was sitting all alone one bright and sunny day,
in my home just chanting Om, my guitar I did play,
Suddenly and shockingly a knocking did resound,
Busting up my mellow mood and bringing me to ground.
I got up from my easy chair and opened up the door,
The sight before me terrified and nailed me to the floor.
With eyes glazed in self-righteousness and wearing plastic grins,
"Praise the Lord" they shouted out "Let's talk about your sins."
Please Bodhisattva NO.....Say it ain't so.....
There's Bible-beaters at my door.
As I looked into their zealot eyes I saw they had one goal,
So I thanked them for their deep concern about my mortal soul.
And said "But I am Buddhist and only I can set me free."
"I do not wish to sacrifice unto to your deity."
The women stepped to one side and started singing hymns.
The children they held by their hands were also joining in.
One man stepped up in front of me, their leader I could tell.
He shook his finger in my face, and said "Sinners go to Hell"
The leader said "There's just one God, you'd better worship Him."
"Come with us, we'll teach you rules to keep you free from sin."
"Then you can join our company, traveling day to day."
"Converting all to our belief....No matter what they say."
He started spouting scripture and his face was turning red.
I wondered if he'd blow a vein and fall right over dead.
I looked at him and asked him if he couldn't plainly see,
The path he'd chosen for himself was surely not for me.
I smiled my sweetest smile at them and offered them some tea.
And told them I was quite content with all my deities.
I said "I cannot follow on the path that you have hatched."
"My religion is kindness... no strings attached."
I stood before them smiling til they finally did give in.
The leader said "Let's leave this place, we'll not save him from sin."
As they walked away I thought about their narrow minded fashion.
This world would be lots better if we all learned some compassion Current Mood: giggly
